Delicious Maltese white vintage — a month ago
Amy’s, Greg’s farewell.
Light, cloudy orange wine. Apricot, guava.
“Light refreshing orange wine. “Xerinola" is a Catalan word meaning "a banquet with well-known friends and family." This cuvée is the winemakers favourite drink. Hints of lemon curd, nectarine, grapefruit and guava. — 4 months ago
A little mystery behind this twelve year-old English sparkling bottled by supermarket Morrisons, produced by ‘Rolling Green Hills Ltd’ who are believed to be Nyetimber. So, for £20, how does this wine made by the UK’s best stand up?
Pretty darn well.
The nose is a dead ringer for Champagne, not that that should be its goal, but I would definitely pin this as such rather than English had I tasted blind. Quite rounded on the nose, with plentiful aromas of toasted brioche, yellow apple, pear and burnt butter. The palate is open and generous, fat and buttery, and it glides through to a satisfying finish with great balance.
I have to say, this is incredibly impressive stuff given the context. Highly recommended!
