Charles Smith

The Velvet Devil Washington State Merlot 2013

Begins with aromas of cedar and blackberry along with a certain herbal spicyness. The pallate, true to name, comes across quite velvety with flavors of juicy plum, blackberry, and hints of sage and cream. Definitely a step above the 2014 vintage I tasted previously. Overall an extremely well balanced and an easy to enjoy Washington Merlot! ($9) [1/26/18] — 6 years ago

90 Ninety + Cellars

Collector Series Lot 94 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

Dark fruit, aggressive tannins, good example of a Napa cab. Really is an iron fist in a velvet glove, but this up for $26 — 8 years ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Still a behemoth at 26 but lovely edges and round full tannins. Powerful velvet finish with just a touch of heat. Decant or hold. Still has 15-20 years left. More a hedonistic Napa Cab lovers treat right now but incredibly tasty stuffing. — 8 years ago

Barrage Cellars

Double Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

100% Cabernet from some of Washington's finest vineyards. 47% Red Willow Vineyard, 27% Destiny Ridge & 26% Stillwater vineyards.
Dark purple color but still showing an inky halo of a younger wine. Lots of raspberry and blackberries, sweet tobacco, mint and toasty oak on the palette with dusty tannin and juicy acidity and a streak of freshness characteristic of Washington wines. Very enjoyable now but should age well for several years. 27 months in 50% New French Oak, 50% once used French oak.
