The Islander Estate Vineyards

Wally White 2012

Pale lemon in colour with a tinge of green. Great flavour intensity with a nice waxy texture. Excellent balanced oak influence combined with the citrus fruit. Honeyed nuances. This winery is on Kangaroo Island SA and is owned by the Jacques Lurton family who have estates around the world including Right Bank icon, Chateau Cheval Blanc. Hunter Valley Semillon legend Murray Tyrrell said that barrel fermenting Semillon spoilt the wine and was a waste of good oak. Murray preferred spotless Stainless Steel. After tasting this little gem from The Islander I no longer agree with Murray. Must drink more dry White Bordeaux. An excellent wine from a great year on Kangaroo Island. — 10 months ago

Old Vines Sémillon 2010

Medium lemon. Again too cold for an acidic white like Semillon even with 6 years of age. This Sem showed barrel ferment characters - biscuit notes. One of the doyens of Hunter Valley Semillon, Murray Tyrrell, said putting Sem to oak was no good for the wine and a waste of good French Oak but I guess it makes it more saleable at a young age without having to wait 10+ years. Still developing. — 3 years ago
