Seven Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir 2002

Grilling some excellent pork chops on a beautiful warm San Diego evening, and my pairing instincts took me to an aged St-I. This from arguably the best Oregon vintage of the 2000’s, it represents perhaps the most Burgundian effort by Mr Vlossak during his “tenure” working the hallowed Seven Springs vineyard. Savory, smoky, brambly, with moderate acidity and tannins, an undertone of grilled herbs, brilliant restrained red fruit, and a hint of brett to round it out. Wine outshined the chop, but all goodness. — a month ago

Summum Seven Springs Vineyard Chardonnay 2008

Took time to open and display a distinct Burgundy persona that picks up weight after being more Chablis at the start. Still tart with apple, lemon and melon flavors driven by the sur lie aging, saline and light mineral. Displays clean, fresh oak with cashew and vanilla. Impressive. Definitely distinctly lighter weight than CA Chardonnay — 16 days ago

La Source Seven Springs Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

A bottle we picked up when in Oregon 2 summers ago. A lovely wine that we tried to drink somewhat slowly, which paid off as I think the last few sips were probably the best. If you had to make comparisons, I’d definitely peg it closer to Burgundy than California. The influence of oak on this wine is hard to miss, and grows stronger the more it opens and warms. But it’s pleasant and doesn’t overshadow the wines other positive qualities. It racy and austere, with vibrant acidity and subtle fruit. Definitely no poached or cooked flavors here. My guess is this wine would age wonderfully, and I wish I had a second bottle to come back to in about a decade. — 25 days ago

Checking in on a 2017 after a fantastic 16 recently. Despite being such a youthful wine, this shows excellent balance. The fruit has plenty of power, but the structure and complex texture are in great harmony. The aromatics are alluring and inviting. This will only get better, but is wonderful now. — 18 days ago
