Key Lime Pie and Lolita? Hard slap of apple cider riding high on waves of apricot and cinnamon stick that is cheating with apple in Pickleville. Asian spices shimmer alongside. Real tart briny lime plays nice with Old Key Lime House-made pie. Bing cherry bringing the cringe from the fringes to the face cave! Sugar-olive dichotomies. The push and pull cancellations have me imagining pickled persimmon existences, dried, spiced Asian plum, banana pepper, potpourri woods, candied ginger, and bite after bite the palatal assault assuaged by lime and sugar and graham cracker. Bittersweet tang for the twang thang. — 5 years ago
This is a beer I look forward to finding each September. Not too heavy on spices and a subtle pumpkin flavor. I just had one from tap topped with cinnamon and sugar, made this beer even more of a treat. — 8 years ago
Religious philosopher Martin Luther said in the 1500s that wine is made by god and beer is made by man. (As grapes ferment naturally and nothing needs to be added and beer is a recipe). -this is a Mexican chocolate cake stout. It is exactly that and perfectly balanced: chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, habanero (earthy heat). The recipe is spot on. — 2 years ago
Better than my first bottle last June.
Parker 95 Wine Maker notes,
Derek Mossman began Garage Wine Company at a time when there were relatively few smaller, family owned wineries in Chile. He not only started his venture to produce hand made wines on a human scale, but also to buy fruit from and support farmers with great quality fruit throughout the country. Along the way, he also banded together a group of like minded wineries to create MOVI, a platform to promote smaller production wineries in Chile.
Tantalizing aromas of blueberries, violets, orange peel, raspberry leaf and aniseed with a touch of aromatic herbs that provide freshness. The palate is electric, with pulsing acidity, ultra-fine tannins and very good length. Both rustic and elegant, wild and subtle, it has precision, elegance, balance and life. Shows no alcohol nor wood. A fresh, Mediterranean blend from a vineyard that was forgotten, revived, regenerated and today shows what the Maule is capable of. — 3 years ago
Tinto is made from old-vine Lístan Negro with a small amount of co-planted Lístan Blanco, grown in hoyos in a vineyard named “Chibusque” located in central Lanzarote. The grapes were hand-harvested in mid-August, destemmed and skin macerated for 3 days before pressing into steel tank for native yeast fermentation and aged on fine lees for 11 months. The finished wine was bottled without fining or filtration the following July.
Incredibly floral, herbal, and piquant, leaping out of the glass and complimenting its bitter initial attack with plenty of grapey fruitiness and a rooty, roasted carrot umami note. — 3 years ago
SABRO Single Hop IPA. Summer time in a can, to the best of knowledge the only beer in Canada made with SABRO hops from the State of Washington🇺🇸. Tastes of coconut, pineapple and with stone fruit notes yet surprisingly simple, crisp and clean. Mrs A loves it. 6.7% alc/vol 60 IBI. If you ever make it to Fernie the first one is on me. Yakima Valley Oldfield Vineyard, carbonic maceration native yeast. Very good clarity, purple red. Aromas of butter and spearmint, flavors of raspberry and cherry. A little funky in a yeast way. 13.7% alc/vol. Interesting hand crafted red, reflecting its artisanal roots. This is not an industrially processed wine in style, but well made. That said, after an hour, barrel char emerges. — 8 months ago
