Renegade tasting - might’ve been because I wasn’t spitting but most balanced and pleasant but forward tannins and red fruit — 2 years ago

Renegade Ridge Estate Pinot Noir 2016

On the nose touches of violet and lavender. Juicy blue fruit notes of Mulberry, blueberry and black raspberry lead into secondary flavors of tea leaf, fresh forest floor, and mineral. — a year ago

La Bruja Avería Rozas de Puerto Real Grenache 2015

Really very nice. Ruby red and clear in the glass. Quite floral. Precise with good minerality and acid. Thoroughly enjoyable from a sort of renegade producer just outside Madrid. — a year ago

Estate Grown Grace Benoist Ranch Pinot Noir 2015

This tastes definitively like a persimmon with a knife-shaped seed. Like a steaming cup of lapsang souchong in an Ozarkian log cabin. This is that wine you pine for once every three years when you have reason to splurge a little, when you recall there is that one, renegade pinot noir that dares to be bold. — 2 years ago

Columbia Valley Rosé Blend 2018

Light and refreshing. Although it went from 70 to 30 today in ketchum. Strawberry, light raspberry, and subtle mandarin orange flavors. Paired well with the local Idaho trout. — 6 months ago

Les Barnabés Chinon Cabernet Franc 1979

Renegade Wine dinner series at Rebelle NYC presented by sommelier Patrick Cappiello. Focus was on Cab Franc: 15 wines paired with 5 courses. Posting a few favorites.

This was WOTN for me. First thing I noticed - and could hardly believe - was how bright red the wine still was being 38 years old. There was some funk on the nose but a ton of fruit as well. The fruit stood out on the palate - and the wine had a brightness to it I couldn't believe. Flavors of raspberries and gravel and still had a great acidity. The somm did note that there is a lot of bottle variation. He opened the same vintage recently and it was all mushrooms and little fruit - so he felt his bottle was a little atypical. But that worked for me. Paired well with Comte.
