This was drinking well at 49 yrs showing structure & finesse with a silky & polished texture that is still youthful with black fruit, cassis, graphite, menthol, glycerin note & tobacco. — a month ago
The 2014 Vieux Château Certan has proven to be a strong performer in recent years, and there has been no change ten years on. Blacker fruit than its peers, plenty of black truffle shavings and a slightly pronounced marine influence. Maybe just a tad more VA than I recall? The palate is medium-bodied with a harmonious and silky smooth entry and fine precision, not a powerful VCC, and very elegant with raspberry, orange rind, tertiary notes and tobacco toward the finish. Wonderful. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2024)

1985! Drank over 3 hours, the earth and leather was dominant, with dark berry fruits and a hint of cinnamon; beautiful drinking experience how it changed over the the few hours ; got much more mushroomy as the night went on; soft and not tannic; — 18 days ago

Wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this - but quite nice. Definitely late secondary at this point, not expecting any positive development. Dark red fruit, still a bit of dusty tannins, still enough acid. Nice pairing with a corned beef for St Patrick’s day. — a month ago

Tasted side by side with the 1990, as well as the 2005 (en magnum). There was another 1989 at the table and two other 1989s at the dinner, plus one more 1990. There was bottle variation amongst the 1989s, but all were solid. Nevertheless, this 1989 was generally regarded as the best of this vintage. The 1990 was more rounded and complete. The 1989 had more acidity 35 years on, but worked well with the sweet bread. — 9 days ago
