Tenuta Il Palagio

Sister Moon Toscana SuperTuscan Blend 2008

evidently from an estate now owned by musician Sting, a super Tuscan. In a good place, soft and full of character. Very nice. — 8 months ago

Weingut Hexamer

Eisendell Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg Spätlese Riesling 2006

The decision to hold this wine until ready made me think of a musician tuning a guitar. He’s turning the keys and plucking the top two strings until the A and the E are the same. And then he strums a heart melting deeply harmonic E chord.

I imagine this wine was tasted, tasted again, then when everything was in tune, magic happens and it’s time for sharing.

It’s glowing gold. Burnt popcorn kernels. Honey. The sweetest indulgent peach preserves.

Monticello Vineyards (Corley Family)

Jefferson Cuvée Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Man.. I loved this stuff! Bottle I brought back after my visit last August. The winery is settled in Oak Knoll, and since the Corely family is from Monticello, they designed the property to reflect the architecture of it. The winemaker's brother talked about how he likes to think about his wine making similar to the composition of music (he is a musician as well). He builds his wines like a chord, and it made me love their wines even more given I am a pianist.
This wine has all the right notes - bright notes of violets and dark cherries, with undertones of tobacco and vanilla on the nose. The pallet is elegant and showing notes of blueberries, clove and nutmeg spices, cocoa, and a soft finish. It was a medium bodied wine and went very well with Greek cuisine, but it would be lovely just stand alone.

Majella

The Musician Coonwarra Cabernet-Shiraz Blend 2015

Cab Shiraz is not a blend I seek out generally, but this wine has become a staple in our area thanks to its annual presence at the Vancouver International Wine Festival. It is, in fact, a very nice blend of red and black fruit with a high red plum note coming through most clearly for me. The shiraz offers smoothing here, I think, rather than any distinct spiciness. I guess in the way that merlot adds a grounding to a blend, but without the earthiness. This music is all up in the trees. There's even a light tree bark note that completes the analogy. Very nice! — 4 years ago
