No. 77 Napa Valley Reserve Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Dark ruby (almost black) in color with a reddish rim.

Strong nose of baked cherries, black plums, red currants, light cedar, vanilla, licorice, tobacco, eucalyptus, dark chocolates, spices, black pepper, pencil lead, dirt and herbs.

Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, sweet strawberries, currants, wood, spices, light vanilla, tobacco, light alcohol, espresso, earth, pencil lead, coke and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty, and nicely aged, Cabernet Sauvignon from Mount Veeder in Napa Valley. Showing a great nose and a complex palate, with a nice mouthfeel.

Not a typical Napa Cabernet, and very unique for the region. A good quality wine with a pretty nose.

This 10 year old is still young and not showing its age much. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

Needs 2 hours to open up properly, so be patient.

Tangy and good with food, too. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses. Great with the brie cheese.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 1987

The belle of the ball. An impressive showing at 33 years. 13.4% alc. Loads of capsicum and vegetal bell pepper notes. Hardly any bricking. Everything about this wine is in great condition and it continues to evolve in the glass. Truly a treat — 2 days ago

Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

A constantly evolving dense and pleasurable wine. Started with heavy blueberry pie, cocoa and cigarbox. Hours later, cedar, star anise, violets and leather. Still an infant. Really well done Sean Capiaux! — 7 days ago

Oak and leather on nose. Full, dry, balanced, very approachable now. Currants, cocoa, blackberries. — 10 days ago

Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Probably just past its peak but lovely stonefruit and blackberry notes. Short finish, great and unassuming with a nice grilled NY strip. Decanted for about 3 hours before drinking - more might have helped but that seemed sufficient. — 10 days ago

Ok... everyone faults this wine for its “lightness”. This is NOT light, the color, texture, weight are all consistent with the grape variety. Smoke, olive, dark cherry notes with noticeable tannins, elevated zesty acidity and a liveliness that dances across the palate. This is a food wine, perhaps a “great” food wine....I would much rather indulge in this wine than an overwrought Napa Cabernet. — a month ago

Napa Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1973

Sailin' away on the crest of a wave
It's like magic
Oh, rollin' and ridin' and slippin' and slidin'
It's magic
And you, and your sweet desire
You took me higher and higher, baby
It's a livin' thing
It's a terrible thing to lose
It's a given thing
What a terrible thing to lose

That song came out when that wine was released (76).I’ve been fortunate enough to have had that 1973. Kept the empty bottle for a few years before throwing it away. @Bobby Gilbane

@David L that’s an amazing coincidence. Was listening to this song when drinking the bottle and it resonated.

Mt. Veeder Merlot 2016

Wonderful! A little early to open, but still enjoyable. Perfectly balanced fruit with acidity and more tannin than most Merlots from CA. Minerality and depth more apparent after decanting. — 3 days ago

Reserve Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Has been a little over 2 years since consuming this wine. Rated at 96 last time, and I would say I would put it the same today. This is a knife and fork wine. Instantly, aromatics of roasted black, purple, blue fruits hit you right in the face upon cork pop. I think that this is probably the right time to drink this one, and did not really even decant. Entry is black tar, ripe blackberry pie, fig, baking spice. Middle gains a little bit of herb, leather. Starts to gain a peppery note. This wine finishes with immense depth and complexity. Goes on for a couple of minutes. Really firing on all cylinders and in its element today. The finish is starting to soften a bit. Toasted cedar tannin finish. Drink now or hold another 5-7 years. Has probably 15 years of life left. — 25 days ago
