🍷Firm and full-bodied wine. Jammy sweet red strawberries. Rich on the palate with good presence of fruit. LJ style is showing with noticeable oak. Red grapefruit on the back of the palate and a long finish. This wine is shining at the moment. Deep and concentrated with perfect balance between the big robust and the elegant styles. Altogether justifies its 1er cru status.
5-star vintage of 2005 requires lots of patience for many top Burgundy, but this one has already opened its drinking window.
📍Les Boudots covers 6.3 ha and sits on the East facing mid-slope in the Northern part of NSG and borders famous Vosne 1er Cru of Malconsorts. The soil is brown limestone and marl.
This wine is fermented in vats for 3-4 weeks and then aged 15 months in oak prior to bottling.

The 2013 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has a slightly dusty bouquet at first, more black than red fruit, cooked meats, a touch of sous-bois and singed leather. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly rustic tannins. For a Grand Cru, I would have wanted more depth and grip, though that said, it is fresh with a pleasant dash of balsamic on the finish. Fine. Super tasty Bordeaux (Coop especially loved it) - Smoke, slate, cassis, dried cherries. Alcohol forward but smoothed out quickly once decanted. Enjoyed with pasta and White Christmas — 4 months ago
Medium ruby with medium pink ruby rim . Slightly smoky dark plum and cherry, quite reserved and still young with a granite like , stony notes, after a while a touch of that garrigue . On the palate nice ripe dark plum and cherry notes , black pepper , touch of spice , refreshing acidity and quite gritty tannins , fills out well on the palate , with a saline tinge on the medium length finish . Drinking well now though could improve over the next 5 years or so and last well a further 5 . — 9 months ago
Nose is musty. May be corked. God hates us all. Some yummy violet peeking out? As this opens more licorice peeks out.
As this opens the aromatics strengthen and the must recedes. Maybe I was wrong. “DAmnit Jim I’m a wine professional not a biochemist!”
Palate has great juicy delicious cherry fruit. Some licorice. Very grippy on the palate. Staining. Rich. More delicious than complex. A big bopper. Interested to taste less giant vintages. Like a more elegant st Joseph this year.
Almost chewy (the adjective not the star wars character).
Whatevs. Having it with steak and duck fat Cooked potatoes. So all good.
Perfectly fine to drink now.

Crafted from fully destemmed grapes, the elegant and polished 2020 Saint-Joseph totally delivers. Violets, black cherry, raspberry and discrete cedar usher in. Ripe tannins structure this medium-bodied and concentrated Saint-Joseph that maintains its elegant profile right through to the refined finale. (Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, March 2024)
