2018 vintage. This historical estate has been in the hands of the Chanfreau family for over 50 years. They also own Château Fonréaud in Listrac and 2 Moulis estates (Châteaux Caroline and Chemin Royal). Lestage is the only Listrac granted Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in the 2020 classification. The 2018 vintage is a blend of 62% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot. The nose is a bit oaky at first, but the wine starts to truly shine after an hour in the glass, so take your time or decant. Cherries, cassis and cedar wood in the nose. The fruit is concentrated and layered, embedded in a powerful tannic structure with very good balancing acidity. While the warmth of the vintage is unmistakable, there is no sign of jamminess. Impressively long finish too. Incredible value at 11,90 euros. If you open this in 7 or 8 years you will curse yourself that you didn't buy more. Kudos to the owners and consulting enologist Antoine Medeville. Abv. 14,5 %. — 4 years ago
Wheeeeeeeawawwwww, gurl! My Italian Stallion daddy done did me good right here!🐴 Givin me all kinds of cream and acidity so tight that you can bounce a quarter. Damn I wish I had more than I one bottle...oops, can I say damn on here? Are we allowed to curse? Cause this one done fucked me right. — 6 years ago
Usually it’s a curse when your wine seller says it’s “ Chablis-esque”. Not this time. What a sensorium of fruit and layers of sea shell minerals; green apples, a bit of lemon curd; rs? Pitch perfect balance, pitch perfect price-under 27$. If this doesn’t convince you Portugal can swing with the heavy hitters,….From the Douro. — 3 years ago
Old cherries and attic dust. Makes you want to curse the world from a rocking chair. — 5 years ago
A rare journey into the damned 2011 vintage and what a great surprise. This is excellent, very Bordeaux like, with a wonderful nose of cherries, violet, cedar, mushroom and menthol. The palate is very smooth without the spicy tannins of the neighbouring sunnier vintages. There is some delicate fruit, blueberry and plums with a creamy but relatively short finish. I really like this and will seek out some more and also challenge the ‘11 curse particularly from higher elevation producers. — 5 years ago
