Need to me that anyone is even growing wine grapes there. Any idea which kind of Muscat grapes these are?

Hi David - this is Muscat of Alexandria, planted by the late Efren Chavez circa 1999 at 2600’ elevation. The wine is made by Hermann York, which is a collaboration of Dusty Hermann with brothers Garret and Taylor York out of Redlands CA. They are on their 3rd vintage. ABV on this wine is 12.42%, with a single barrel produced. From Chavez, they also make an Alicante Bouschet, and the beautiful Los Empleados (13.15%), a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Chardonnay, Muscat, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Viognier and Zinfandel. Check out herrmannyork.wine or @hermannyorkwine on IG for more info. Good guys, fun wines!

All news to me (if I could only type) Brilliant info, since I lived in the general area years ago I’m intrigued. Thanks for sharing!

Hermann York Wine

Los Empleados Chavez Vineyard Red Blend 2020

Another entrant in the burgeoning So Cal winemaking scene. Met Dusty Herrmann and the York brothers when they were picking Mission and Grenache in the Bob Munoa vineyard last fall. This one is from the high desert of Antelope Valley, and is an interesting and fun field blend of Alicante Bouchet, Chardonnay, Muscat, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Viognier and Zin. Dark Rosé color, beautifully expressive nose, and light on its feet at 13.15%. Only had a small taste, but enjoyed it enough to order two bottles, along with their Mission, Alicante Bouschet Rosé and Amber Muscat. Certainly an interesting new project! — 5 years ago

Very 😎 Antelope Valley

Hospices de Beaune

Cuvée Charlotte Dumay Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2006

(La Cave de Famille Herrmann, JA's childhood friend). Goldfish straw. Deep, gouttey, copper filing nose. Intensely mineral and richly earthy. Not at all tropical. Impressive nose. Extremely serious on palate, masculine, even austere. Not very 2006, in a good way. Mineral, densely textured. Long but needs many years to really blossom. Very fine. — 10 years ago
