Greater Good Imperials Brewing Company

Domaine Henry Pellé

Menetou-Salon Morogues Pinot Noir Rosé 2020

Nose has crushed strawberry, Clementine orange slice, yellow raspberry, red raspberry, green table grapes and moist chalk.

Palate has cherry, (light) raspberry, Clementine orange zest, partially dried strawberry, green melon, (light) steely notes and faint salinity. Nice wine, good finish, think this will settle into a greater spot in a couple years.

Quite a fruit forward profile on the nose, this is presently drinking better than the '19, likely closer to the '18 for immediate enjoyment. We generally hold at least a case on most vintages, for consumption 2-3Y past current vintage. The strategy hasn't failed us yet on satisfaction for this bottling.

Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

From the Great Friends Pondering Great BDX series. Fresh as a daisy and generally preferred over the ‘88. It was mentioned that this year had greater acidity, which given the freshness makes good sense. This could seemingly go another 20 years without issue. — a year ago

Les Elotins Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2015

Have not had a young C/R in a long time. This was like seeing a two year old thoroughbred race horse and thinking sure he’s not going to win the Kentucky Derby but this is a very good horse.
Lots of all the good things; fruit, acid and tannin and most importantly minimal alcohol influence in a warm vintage . Very pure , one can drink now but you will be missing out on even greater enjoyment in the future.

Marchesi Antinori

Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

This is why we fell in love with Brunello wines some 20 years ago. Red fruit, chocolate and a bit of tar in the nose. Super smooth and delicate in the mouth. A touch of acidity but all to serve the greater good. — 2 years ago

En la Rue de Vergy Morey St. Denis Pinot Noir 2017

Popped yesterday, basically to.taste today, but this was spectacular yesterday as well. Today...on the nose: spicy wild strawberry, an absolutely intoxicating perfume, cinnamon, soft musk, spice..but the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. On the palate: good acidity, wild strawberry with spice, soft va, very finely grained tannin on the juicy and spicy finish. — 8 months ago

Black Chicken Napa Valley Zinfandel 2017

Plush, ripe fruit-forward Zinfandel from Napa Valley.

This wine is deep ruby. It has pronounced intensity of youthful aromas. The aromas include primary notes of ripe black cherry, strawberry, blackberry preserves, and black plum sauce. Also, secondary notes of cedar, vanilla, coconut, and nutmeg. And tertiary notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and tobacco.

On the palate this wine is dry although it has some discernible residual sugar. It has medium acidity, a medium(+) body, high alcohol, medium(+) tannins, and pronounced intensity in concentrated flavors. Flavors include primary notes of ripe black cherry, strawberry, blackberry preserves, and black plum sauce. Also, secondary notes of cedar, vanilla, coconut, and nutmeg. And tertiary notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and tobacco. The finish is medium(+).

This wine has good balance, length, and intensity. It could improve with greater complexity.

This is a very good wine that is ready for consumption now.

👁 This wine has a deep ruby hue with pink rim variation, strong tearing, and noticeable extraction.
.
.
👃 This wine has a clean nose and a pronounced intensity of aromas. The aromas are developing and include ripe black cherry, black cassis preserves, baked blackberry, plum sauce, violet, anise, molasses, vanilla, cinnamon, and cedar.
.
.
👄 On the palate, this wine is dry, with high alcohol. It is full-bodied with medium acidity. This wine has medium(+) tannins and a pronounced intensity of flavors. The flavors on the palate are consistent with the nose, including, black cherry, black cassis preserves, baked blackberry and plum, as well as, anise, licorice, earth, molasses, vanilla, and cedar. This wine has a long finish.
.
.
This wine is very good. It offers complexity in aromas and flavors spanning primary (from the grape and alcoholic fermentation), secondary (from post-alcoholic-fermentation processes, like oak aging) and tertiary (from bottle age and maturation) categories. The balance could be improved with greater acidity. This wine may be consumed now, but has potential for additional aging, given the strong tannins and overall structure. It may become even more complex, soften, and become more elegant with additional time in the bottle.

Doubleback

Estate Reserve Red Blend 2017

Zoom event with Drew Bledsoe and Josh McDaniels. Vertical from ‘07, ‘14, ‘15, ‘16, ‘17, ‘17 estate, and ‘18. All were exceptionally smooth and silky with good depth of fruit. Notes on the ‘17 estate reserve. I have to be honest. I liked the regular ‘17 better than the ‘17 estate reserve at this point in their lifecycle. I think the estate reserve is built for greater longevity and will race past the regular ‘17 in a few years but it was still a bit wound up. 94% CS, 6% petite Verdot. This wine was the most tannic of the night and had the biggest mouth feel. It coated your teeth with big fruit and tannins that were not as subtle as the other wines we tasted tonight. As these mellow out this wine will get better and better. Notes of cocoa and spice linger through the long finish. There were subtleties in this wine that will emerge with time. Put this away for 3-5 years and revisit it when it has had time to mellow a bit. — 10 months ago

Haven’t enjoyed one in years. I’ve had several in the past and found them to be “inconsistent” the only word I can think of. Should probably revisit. Cheers

👄 This wine is dry and medium bodied. The acidity is high. The alcohol is medium. This wine has pronounced intensity of flavors including tart green apple, lemon peel, lime, apricot, passion fruit, gooseberry, wet stone, and honeysuckle. The finish is medium(+).
.
.
Quality of this wine is very good. It is very good because it has strong balance of acidity and fruit characteristics. It has a good length and intensity of aromas. It could be improved with greater complexity and tertiary flavor development that would increase the honeyed and dried fruit flavor potential. This wine may be consumed now, but will benefit from more time in the bottle.

Château Simone

Palette Grand Cru de Provence Grenache Rosé Blend 2018

Nose has summer roses, cut cherries, mashed raspberry, stainless steel, minor flint, blood orange peel and dried rose; additional development with each swirl & sniff.

Palate has dried raspberry, dried orange peel, warm green herbs, dehydrated peach, mild tannins (wow), lengthy finish with minor dehydrated tart cherry. Such an experience with a barrel aged rosé!

Future bottles on 2018 should be held until 2026+

Grenache 45% / Mourvèdre 30% / Cinsaut 5% / 20% Field Blend including Syrah, Castet, Manosquin, Carignan & various Muscatel

Decanted 4h. I will endeavour to follow the development of this bottle over the coming days.

24 Hour Update: Fresh raspberry most prominent today on the nose. Palate is showing raspberry jam with minor leather notes.

48 Hour Update: Fresh & dried raspberry, fresh rose, bowl of fresh cherries, moist cedar plank and dry sandstone on the nose. Palate is showing dried strawberry, dried raspberry, minor green herbs, dried orange peel and minor dried cherry. This bottle looks to finally unknitting towards its greater self.

72 Hour Update: See 48 Hour notes, plateaued to a good spot still. Enough wine left for one more update.

192 Hour Update: Nose has cranberry jelly, ripe raspberry, warmed cherries, fresh cranberry and dried orange peel. Palate has raspberry juice, freshly juiced cherry, cranberry juice cut with water, dried orange and minor dried herbs. Still doing great, on day eight. Final update.

@Michael It stays in the wine cooler, then makes an appearance to be poured, then we allow it to warm in the glass. I'm going to try to stretch it about 3 days.
