Economou Sitia 2004

Domaine Economou

Oikonomoy Crete Liatiko 2004

I’ve compared this to warmer Nebbiolo with its striking rose petal bouquet, with some tart red cherry, spice and a little herbaciousness in the mix. Finishes with a touch of heat. — a month ago

Corison

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Disappointing to be honest. It did get better with air, but was weak and lacked depth. I had high expectations, but this wasn't terrible. Middle of the road, but Corison is way better than that! — a day ago

Confrerie Des Chevaliers du Tastevin Sous-Commanderie d'Albany, Chapter Candidate (Interrogation) Dinner; 14 May 2018 at Schuyler Meadows Club, Loudonville, NY

Earthy and green to start, but almost the best wine at the conclusion of the evening.

The 04 Napa out of 6L.

On the nose, sweet, ripe, touch of fruit liqueur; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries and poached strawberries with hue of blue fruits on the glass edges. Light dark spice, vanilla, some black licorice, moist black earth, soft volcanic minerals, fresh purple florals and violets.

The body is medium. Tannins 50% resolved. Still showing a little austere. Ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, strawberries with hue of blue fruits on the glass edges. Light dark spice, vanilla, some black licorice, moist black earth, more gritty volcanic minerals than the nose, herbal notes, used leather, dry stems & underbrush, fresh purple florals and violets. Nice acidity and a beautiful finish in progress. Out of 6 liter, this still needs time to develop.

Domaine Leflaive

Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2004

Light straw color. Petrol and stones dominate the nose. Some apricot and earth. Nice fruit and decent acidity but it's lacking in the mid palate and finish. — 8 hours ago

Georges de Latour Private Reserve Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Plums, raisins, and licorice on the nose. More of the same on the palate. Definitely over the hill unfortunately. I thought these wines would have aged better. Not bad, but I had high expectations. — 9 days ago

Chichibu

Ichiro's Malt MWR Mizunara Wood Reserve Malt Whisky 2004

Bought in Niseko Hokkaido in late January 2018. My first purchase of a Japanese Malt Whisky and I was mightily impressed. No small claim from a McDonald who loves Talisker Laphroig and Lagavulin!!! Compared with the Hibiki I bought duty free this Ichiros Malt was more sooty and tarry but ever so smooth. Reminiscent of Drambuie. Orange Peel and damp straw. Big price difference unfortunately. About $100 in Niseko and about $200 to $250 in Australia. — 8 days ago

Cannubi Barolo Nebbiolo 2004

Beautiful wine. Reading professional reviews I was expecting more oak but this was smooth as silk. Great balance of fruit and the “tar and roses” Barolo delivers — 4 hours ago
