East Amon Re

Moorabool Estate

JH Dardel Paradise IV Red Blend 2015

An interesting back story. This wine is from the Geelong District in Victoria. In 1848 Swiss Vigneron James Henry Dardel commenced the establishment of Paradise Winery and Vineyards, I, II, III and IV on the banks of the Moorabool River at Batesford near Geelong. He won local and overseas acclaim for his wines before the Geelong Wine industry was destroyed by phylloxera in 1881. In 1988 planting was re-established on the site of the original Paradise IV Vineyard by Graham and Ruth Bonney. The vineyard faces north east and has a unique soil profile of decomposed granite over limestone marl. The vineyard is low cropped and the wines are made using traditional winemaking techniques. The wine is Northern Rhone in style. Red florals with lots of spice and charcuterie. Rich and savoury on the medium plus bodied palate. Only 240 dozen made. Is there a square mile of Victoria not suitable for viticulture? — 4 months ago

Isère Etraire de la Dhui 2018

What a crazy wine. 5 ha of this grape on earth. From isere, a region next to savoie in the mountains in the east of France.

Nose is grapes and piney. Very alpine. Some flowers as it opens. Lilacs ? Lavender? Really a beautiful wine in such an unexpected and different way.

Palate is Really delicious. Incredibly crisp and fresh. Hints of pine. Silky tanins.

Lovely fresh alpine finish.

This is almost like if a parcel of volnay was transported to the mountains.

I served this with veal tongue soup. I wanted a re but an elegant red. Mountain wine made sense. I’m glad I had this in my cellar.

Bought from fass selections.

IPA

Re-review of this classic landmark beer, why? New label, new description on label, this was and still is such a important beer in the craft beer Community, brewed since 1997 and still stands as one of the best IPA' s in the world, Centennial, Chinook and Magnum hops give it that classic base of West Coast IPA, that started the whole IPA movement in other beers and breweries, this was the beer that set the stage for what is now the great IPA 's in the west and east coast, such a monumental and important beer, The influence cannot be understated, still as I said, it holds its place as a great beer today — 8 years ago

Classic Series Casablanca Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Chilean Sauv Blancs at mid-price rival pricey French Sauv. Nice full tropical bouquet on the nose. Tart and "minerally" finish (I'm still making up my own descriptors.) What a Sauv should be (at 10:35 a.m.)......."Makes me want to shirk all my duties and line up three bottles and re-watch all of Flight of the Conchords AND East Bound and Down and finish in time to watch The Pats destroy." Anyway, Sauv Blanc is my fave. — 8 years ago
