Hello spring 👋🌷 Loving the beautiful sunshine 🌞 and mild temps here in the Twin Cities today.

Just wrapped up a tasting with friends that included a study of Orin Swift wines, including this heavyweight Pinot Noir from California.

👁 It is solidly medium ruby with “demonic” tearing. @win_drinks_wine

👃 On the nose this wine has medium(+) intensity in youthful aromas. Aromas include notes of candied cherry, kirsch, raspberry preserves, cranberry, strawberry rhubarb, also violet, licorice, mushroom, forest floor, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, cedar, and dark chocolate.

👄 On the palate this wine is dry, it has medium(+) acidity, a medium(+) body, HIGH alcohol, medium tannins, and medium(+) intensity in flavors consistent with the nose. The finish lingers.

Woah, this is unexpectedly heavy and intense for a Pinot Noir, but I have to say it’s pretty darn delicious.

From Matt at Linne Calodo - who makes some of the most interesting and unusual blends coming out of Paso - the 2015 version of one of his earliest cuvees is 54% grenache, 30% mourvedre, 14% syrah, and 2% tannat. Terrific wine with loads of fruit, great aromatics on the nose, and super soft, well-integrated tannins. This is another one that performs better at temps as close to cellar as possible, as it gets a bit flabby if it warms up too much. Really enjoyable wine. — a month ago

La Muse Sonoma County Merlot Blend 1999

Petite peur à l’ouverture, je voyais que le bouchon avait légèrement coulé et en plus il s’est brisé mais tout est rentre dans l’ordre au premier nez! 🙏 À l’ouverture c’est discret, on perçoit uniquement les fruits rouges, en bouche également. Apres quelques temps en carafe, on pourrait facilement se croire sur la Rive-Droite à Bordeaux. En bouche, les fruits rouges sont encore présents,

Une touche de balsamique

C’est riche, soyeux, le vin devient extrêmement structuré après 2 heures en carafes, tannins fermes mais pas asséchant, acidité présente sans être gênante, la finale est longue. Rien n’accroche. Absolument Wow! Sure son X, et finalement il n’en testait plus le lendemain.

Le gars de WS devait avoir eu une longue journée pour attribuer la note de 85 à mon humble avis...
