City On A Hill

Henschke

Hill of Grace Vineyard Shiraz 2008

Voted WOTN for good reason. This has been a bucket list wine for me. Some sections of this famous vineyard were planted in 1860 but all of the vines are ridiculously old. It’s bombastic and really stands out from the crowd. Very expressive both on the nose and on the palate. Full bodied and multi layered. Creamy and rich texture. Dark berries, plums, coffee, cigar, orange peel, eucalyptus, soy, cigar box and an array of oriental spices. Probably at a peak right now, such a joy to drink. — 4 days ago

Philip Togni Vineyard

Tanbark Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Inky in color with a very short reddish/ brick rim.

Full bodied with medium acidity

Showing black fruits with earth, bell pepper, tobacco, oak, dark coffee, pencil lead, bitter herbs, earth, light roasted bell pepper and forest floor.

Soft tannins on the tangy finish.

This 10 year old Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is probably on its way out. Still very drinkable, but a little unbalanced and showing lots of earth notes.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after two hours of air time.

Showing nice complexity at this point, but a little bitter for my taste.

Although still good, I expected more from this second wine from this producer and this vintage.

90 points.

$80 (current vintage).

Kelly's Reserve Tasmania Pinot Noir 2015

Last note on the 2015 vintage was in January 2017. Same notes as previous - luscious raspberry notes. I drank this in Toowoomba a few days ago and now on the Gold Coast. Needs to be a regular purchase. Too delicious not to be. — 2 months ago

Petaluma

Hanlin Hill Riesling 2011

See previous notes for the 2011 vintage. Hints of kerosene and lime. On the palate M+ intensity and excellent persistence. The following night a more fulsome body with grapefruit and citrus. A great result for the difficult wet 2011 vintage in South Australia. A truly excellent mature Clare Valley Riesling. — 17 days ago

Napa Valley Merlot

I am not a big Merlot fan but this was excellent. Long finish, a lot going on. — a month ago

Bodegas Volver

Tarima Hill Old Vines Alicante Monastrell

The wine exhibits deep garnet color with flashes of violet and a bouquet of dark red cherries and leather. On the palate the wine achieves its full potential, offering notes of black berries, plums, and licorice with an elegant but persistent finish. — 2 months ago

Chalk Hill

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2020

A real solid $20 Chard, Barrel aged 10 months sur lie! Medium lemon color with aromas of stone and citrus fruits with notes of warm baking spice. On the palate ripe apple and lemon flavors with vanilla and nutty toasty oak. Well balanced on medium+ finish ending, a bit buttery with slight oak and mineral notes. A favorite!! Drink now! — 3 months ago

Hahndorf Hill Winery

GRU Adelaide Hills Grüner Veltliner 2018

From Australia’s leading exponent of Gruner Veltliner - Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. We visited there in April 2021 and bought a selection. Notes of Granny Smith Apple and peach. Barb thought a cumquat note showing its unctuous texture. Medium minus acid. Halliday says we should cellar Gruners for a decade or so like a good Riesling. Not sure this vintage has the requisite acid. Probably why the 2018 has more immediate appeal and has won more Gold Medals at Australian Shows, than Michael Phelps in the pool, as you can see on the label. — 12 days ago

Bacigalupi Vineyard Chardonnay

@Delectable Wine this is the Nid Tissé Bacigalupi vineyard Chardonnay - 2019 Gorgeous Wente clone. Less than 100 cases produced. Amazing - Cali Chardonnay doesn’t get much better than this IMO.
#Jeb’s notes: “In the same ballpark quality-wise, yet in a very different style, the 2019 Chardonnay Bacigalupi Vineyard comes from the Russian River and offers a bigger, richer style in its notes of ripe melon, pear jam, flower oil, and toasted bread. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a beautifully balanced mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's another beautiful wine from this winemaker that merits serious attention”

Stony Hill

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2009

Pop and pour pre Thanksgiving dinner fireup with oysters. A stunning medium gold color. On the nose: perfumed notes of baked banana, celery, vanilla, green apple, slate. Taste: smooth, chalky wine with apricots, lemon, lime zest, flinty, white grapefruit, minerals. Nice....though on the lower acidity for Stony Hill. — 2 months ago
