A beautiful Canberra Shiraz I had with an amazing T Bone steak up in the blue mountains in front of an open fireplace. Beyond. — 10 months ago
Stunning. So linear, light and bright and impeccably balanced. Delicious. — 2 years ago
This is very good. Restrained class. Pure, concentrated but not heavy. Plumb, brambles, and some spice on the nose. Quite rich and sweet on the front palate - plumb, black fruit, savoury spice. But then a sour peppery element kicks in which carries the pure fruit through to a long finish. — 5 years ago
Another favourite Australian Red but this 2014 vintage not showing as well as it normally does. I put it down to the vintage. Aromatically it is spicy but subdued; digging deeper there is earth and clove with herbs. With time, meaty aromas emerge. Perhaps more time will reveal more and provide more depth on the palate. — 3 months ago
Top shelf Riesling. Aging beautifully. Drank over two days. Love aged Canberra district Riesling. Generally I've found that they need at least a decade to integrate. Balance of citrus fruits and talc. So different from Eden and Clare. This will go another decade easily. — 2 years ago
Lighter in colour than I expected. Very fruity initial hit. Very pleasant and easy to drink. — 3 years ago
See previous note from June 2019. Red florals, spice (cinnamon and nutmeg) and a little pepper. More Syrah than Shiraz if you know what I mean. The medium +bodied palate showing red and blue fruits with savoury spices. Clonakilla is very much more known for their stellar Shiraz/Viognier ( the best Cuvée of that blend in Australia). However this 100% Syrah is a wonderful expression. I’m considering the current release. Next bottle in a few years. — 4 months ago
Brief notes. Meaty aromas - very savoury. See previous notes re this being Bryan Martin’s private venture while still working at Clonakilla with their Shiraz Viognier being the benchmark in the country. Love this Northern Rhone style wine. I was expecting pepper but got more spice and charcuterie. — 2 years ago
Interesting blend of 57% Canberra district Merlot, 41% Clare Valley Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. Mulberry, Vanilla and Tobacco notes. A slight touch of H2S which did not blow off and did not effect the palate. A very mellow palate with very soft resolved Tannins. This went perfectly with Pasta and Tomato savoury home made sauce. I usually don’t rate Aussie Merlot predominant blends but this was more than acceptable — 4 years ago
