Calamity Hill Vineyard

Diamond Creek Vineyards

Volcanic Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

A Thanksgiving miracle! Was so worried that this bottle corked by the staining on the cork, but is all ended well! The fruit is barely there on this bottle from my favorite vineyard (Volcanic Hill) from Diamond Creek. Still an immense presence and complexity after decanting for 4 hours. Time had made this bottle a little more delicate than the others, but unmistakable Diamond Creek. Glasses were raised to Al and Boots as the vineyard has now been bought by Roederer. I believe it is in food hands. — 5 hours ago

A producer that really shines with this kind of age. Love their work in the 80’s & 90’s.

Hanlin Hill Clare Valley Riesling 2016

Great recommendation from the local wine shop!

Light gold color. Petrol and flowers on the nose. Crisp and bright, with excellent balance. Had before and after dinner, so is very multidimensional. Loved it!

Freedom Hill Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

“Village Meursault ? Roulot? I’m told no, not even French, 🤔. American😳? Yes. Oregon ? Yes. That is as far as I got. Please take it out of the bag. Reductive nose but a laser like focus in the mouth . A taser like finish of citrus . Will purchase a bottle just to see what this becomes in 5-8 years. — 9 days ago

Fresh, very clean, but lacked much depth of honestly much interesting going on. Would be great on a really hot day. — a day ago

Light and a little too fruity on the first night, but we moved on to another, waited another day, and then a much stronger showing. — 5 days ago

Ravenswood Winery

Old Hill Sonoma Valley Zinfandel 2015

Throwback for me. As Zin was my go to grape in the 90s, the single vineyard Ravenswood wines were my favorites! I visited in 1999/2000ish and drank from the barrels.

900 cases made, this has a bold blueberry and black pepper nose, mint adds on the palate, a bit more mellow than I remember it, which is great for my older taste. Medium plus body, medium tannins.

Had a large Zin collection in the late 90s early 2000‘s. Just a few bottles now in my cellar.

Bell Hill Vineyards

Old Weka Pass Road Pinot Noir 2016

Always a treat to try a Bell Hill Pinot Noir. Quite light in colour. Wonderful florals of violet, roses and a stalky whole bunch note - a nose reminiscent of Vosne Romanee. A light to medium weight palate showing more body than the colour would indicate. Strong Sous Bois character with red fruits and great persistence. I have very few wines from Canterbury NZ but on this showing, should have more. This is Bell Hill’s 2nd ranked Cuvée. I have a few bottles of their 1st ranked Cuvée but they need more cellar time before popping the cork, as does this Old Weka Pass 2016. A great Pinot with further potential. — 2 days ago
