Amari & Rosoli

Emiliano Falsini

Feudo Pignatone Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese 2019

Soulful. Some whole cluster really leans into the earthy-spice character of Nerello, Amari-esque. Apothecary, muddled berries, hot rock, licorice, rhubard, dried orange, leather. Tannins build and have a pleasant coarseness to them. — a year ago

Yamhill Valley Vineyards

Reserve Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2009

Purchase 2009 at Schneider’s in 2013 for $30. Opened screw top on the 2/20/2019 snow day. Faded color in decanting / candling. Savory nose of sage, tobacco. Bandaid smell. Light fragrance. Thick seeet taste of roses. Licorice finish with tang. Laura says amari like finish. She has a cold. — 5 years ago

Giulio Cocchi

Barolo Chinato Nebbiolo

Loads of layers. Anise, gentian, rhubarb, like a vintage amari. — 9 years ago

Agrosan

Amaro dell’Etna

NV. This was the deeper and more herbal of two amari (Montenegro) and a great house-made limoncello that were paired with the dolce of Fior di Latte with white truffle and hazelnut. Great meal! — 2 years ago

@Brent Young I agree on the Montenegro! It was one of the few amaro that both my wife and daughter enjoyed along with me.

@Brian Hearty I am not surprised that all of you liked it. It is the first amaro that I give to friends that have not tried any amari because it has the broadest appeal. I like the whole category but Montenegro remains one of my favorites. It works great in cocktails too, if you have not tried it

Kindschi

Bündner Röteli Likör

An interesting digestif only made and consumed in Switzerland. semi-sweet with dollops of Alpine herbs, cherry, and "root beer" notes. A sane 22% (like many Amari). Seems like it would be a fantastic cocktail ingredient, except for the fact you can't get it anywhere else in the world. — 7 years ago

Tenuta delle Terre Nere

Prephylloxera La Vigna di Don Peppino Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese Nerello Cappuccio 2012

Just a wee taste. Pretty and interesting. The nose reminded me of amari, herbaceous and sweet-spiced. Stiff tannins and mellow acidity. All around lovely. — 9 years ago

Weingut Bernhard Huber

Malterdinger Trocken Spätburgunder 2016

2021 summer. Many Spätburgunders have a bitter, herbal character which is a bit reminiscent of some amari. This has that too, but with red fruit and spice which reminds one of Burgundy as well. — 3 years ago

Don Ciccio & Figli

Finocchietto Liqueur

Made it to the Don Ciccio & Figli tasting room today to stock up on amari. This finocchietto has always been one of my favorites. Refined aromas and flavors of candy coated fennel seeds. — 4 years ago

St. Agrestis

New York Amaro

One of the best Amari I have tasted and it's from NYC! Great mouthfeel with a sweet attack and amazing complex herbal finish! — 8 years ago

Picon

Amer Picon Aperitif Liqueur

The greatest of the amari- because it's french? This bottle is from the late 1960s- the abv dropped to 21 (from 30, and from 38 depending on regional market and time of bottling), but it wasn't yet sweetened as it is today. I've yet to find anything even close to the intensity of the fresh orange zest and orange caramel flavors of this beast. Demandez un Picon! — 9 years ago
