Single parcel Mencía from a southwest facing slope of 80ish year-old vines. Opened yesterday along with the Viñas de Aldea (village version) the Aldea was much more approachable. Today the Seoane has really opened up, but does need a little cellar time (or a big decant) IMHO. Strawberry, graphite, wild herbs, black pepper, very fine tannin and vibrant acidity. 600ish bottles produced. — 8 years ago
The last and probably the best bottle from a lot of four purchased from our local importer. There was quite a bit of bottle variation in our Malaysian importer’s 19’ Envinate release - the Migan’s and Palo Blanco’s were quite the rollercoaster ride - but the Vinas de Aldea seemed to have gotten the good side of the container. Like the last bottle, this was full of floral elegance and tangy energy. Super complex aromas of violets, ripe cherries, sweet herbs, pepper, and a touch of coffee and flint. All finesse on the palate, but has depth too. Sweet red fruits, bittersweet herbs, umeshu, and an absolutely lovely, Mosel-esque slatey minerality; finishing sharp with grippy, chalky tannins. For me it was firmly in that red kabinett territory, and downright perfect with our fatty Angus picanha. Loved it! — 6 months ago

Really pretty color. Good nose and great leather aroma. Terrific plum with a soft and silky finish. Not tannic…really good. — a year ago

I've never had a 100% based Graciano grape Rioja before but this was exquisite. The flavours were full and rich and the body was intense. 10/10 would drink again and highly recommend. — 7 years ago
Adored this. Almost like Northern Rhone Syrah, smoke and violets and meat. Galicia in full force on the list at Aldea. — 9 years ago

Medium deep ruby garnet with reasonably wide garnet rim . Quite aromática with spiced dark cherry , wild strawberry , cacau touches , fresh herbs also . On the palate quite ripe cherry fruit , with quite refreshing acidity , slightly chewy tannins with a bitter touch on the ok finish . Drink now and over the next 3-5 years — 5 months ago
