Schist, loess, alluvial. Tart red cherry, steeped tea leaves, finished slightly sweet. Med acid, med fine grained tannins. Med+ intensity/finish. Citrusy, native yeast, fermented in vineyard. Blend of Abel, MV6, Dijon clones. 23% whole cluster, 24% new oak. Citrus - blood orange!! — 4 years ago
Vineyard is on the Atlantic Ocean with granite soils, apparently phylloxera resistant, run by the Mendez family. 50% of whole bunches are fermented in stainless along with skins for 2 months, after fermentation the wine is macerated with the skins in vats of used oak for 12 months, creating interesting wine. Golden yellow with aromas of ripe fruits, honey and minty notes. On the palate apple, apricot & honey with some bread dough notes. Lingering with good acidity and balance, unlike any $15 Albariño. — 5 years ago
A serious Pinot after the frivolous fresh young uncomplicated Pinot from Bloody Hill (Mayer) in the Yarra Valley. Quite bold with strong red and black fruits of cherry strawberry and raspberry together with earthy mushroom like notes. Finishes with fine powdery tannins. An interesting back story to the origins of the Malcolm vineyard where cuttings from one of “Burgundy’s finest estates “ believed to be in Vosne Romanee were illegally brought from France. Now known as the Abel clone. See full story on the Ata Rangi website. — 9 months ago

— 2 months ago
