Stage Left Cellars

Left Bend

Gali Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Left Bend - Santa Cruz Mountains - Camel Hill Vineyard - Syrah - 2016

Great fruit and terrior, oak notes could sit 2 years. Oak was good, a lil coconutty (for my taste) but very tasty now and should mellow nicely with a just lil more time.

Get some for now and some for later.

Clos de la Maréchale Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Not as good as the 2016 had last year....floral but the fruit was not very present. Perplexed probably in a very weird stage and should not be touched for 5 years at least — 2 days ago

James Halliday

Hunter River Traminer Riesling 1979

Actually a cleanskin of the Lindemans bin 5687 Traminer Riesling and I am not sure if the Riesling was instead a semillon at that stage.
The wine was absolutely past its peak, but had some freshness and a long after taste.
Bought on auction from James Halliday' cellar collection.
1979 was a great vintage in Hunter Valley
Surely happy I tried, but not the greatest.

After 4 hrs I go back on the remaining half btl of the wine which was left unattended on the kitchen bench with a random cork inserted since its own obviously crumbed at the opening.
Well, don't ask me, but the wine has opened up aromas earlier hidden of white chocolate, macadamia, hay, ginger, apricot jam, a bountiful of flowers, lemon grass, English breakfast tea and so much more. Not so sweet at all and very enjoyable now. Definitely something I might not be able to experience again perhaps.

@Ceccherini Cristiano Great experimentation Cec. There would be some hidden gems in Halliday’s huge cellar.

@Bob McDonald I feel like I will pour some in the sink😄😄, but the good ones are going to be unforgettable. I did get some old whites from the Hunter that might be fireworks...or not😅

Yves Cuilleron

Cavanos Saint Joseph Syrah 2016

Consumed directly after the 2015 Cornas “Le Village”. This was just a notch below that wine in my opinion. Right now, the structure is taking center stage and not allowing the fruit to deliver in the same way its cousin is giving. I also think the Cornas showed more complexity. Not that this isn’t endowed with fruit or complexity. A very lovely wine though. — 6 days ago

Wairarapa Sauvignon Blanc 2019

NZ SB not my game, but, this has a very nice fruit when super lightly chilled (almost room temp)

Anymore than a slight chill, all the grassy and over the top citrus and bitter acidic notes appear, and I am exit stage left like Snagglepuss.
