#6 on WS top 100 wines of 2007.
2 hour decant (decent chunky sediment). A dazzling dark ruby red color. On the nose: perfumed nose, black fruit, menthol, earthy, green veggie, graphite. Taste: a smooth and silky wine with dark fruit, spice, earthy, and a cherry pencil lead medium plus slightly tannic finish. Still just a little young and slightly austere...it will be better with a few more years on it. But with the decant, it will be enjoyed over the next couple hours this Saturday night! Cheers! — 3 days ago
Fantastic wine and just my style!
1hr+ decant, which was perfect. Dark red color with aging on the edges. Classic Bordeaux nose of cherries, earth, cigar box, and cedar. Dark cherries, smoke, and charred meat on the palate. Medium depth with some grittiness to it, and above average tannins. Medium plus finish. Loved it!
Would drink now as it’s slowly starting its decline. — 11 days ago
This is actually a Chateau Macquin and is drinking much older than its 2016 vintage. Wonderful notes of earthy raspberry and tobacco but very smooth Tannins. The value is perfect for a St. EMILION experience without breaking the bank — 4 days ago
Allen Brothers Ribcap wine.
2004 not the best Bordeaux vintage but, certainly not bad. What was disappointing was how not ready this was to drink. Normally, a lesser than grand vintage 14 years in bottle Cos would have blossomed better. Good but, not what I was hoping for with my Ribcap. Still showing a fair amount of primary characteristics & a touch astringent.
It will be 5-8 years before I open another.
Truly one of the more grand Chateaus in Bordeaux. — 4 days ago
Terrific St Estephe - very masculine wine with a brooding intensity that builds each hour after decanting. The bouquet takes a bit of time to develop but has beautiful dark fruits, tobacco and leather. Plush tannins sit heavy on the palate with more dark fruits and leather with a long finish. A very big wine that seems like it’s just at the start of its drinking window. — 11 days ago
Tasted blind. Deep, dark amber tinged and tawny color. Hits me immediately as a gravel-influenced Bordeaux and I’m am in Graves with my guess. Notes of tobacco, graphite, ash, earth and gravel stone. Big shoulders, and a little hot. Yet silky in the mouth. I guess 82 La Mish HB. This has plenty of life in front of it, but give it 5+ hrs of air if consuming in the near term as the provider of this wine did. — 10 days ago
I’ve seen mixed reviews on this wine and vintage; must admit I was weary about opening it. My bottle has been properly cellared for several years and decanted for forty minutes before drinking. Fortunately the wine is excellent in my opinion; very rich, luscious and decadent. Complex and evolving with a long finish. Cheers and a shame for those bad bottles but it’s all part of the love of wine... — 13 days ago
After hearing of this for a while, I grabbed one of these a while back and decided to open as 2014 Napa cabs are generally pretty open knit right now. Great pedigree as the fruit was formerly sold to Harlan. Winemaker is TRB. This is their reserve bottle, which is a barrel select of their estate.
Sure does seem to have TRB’s signature style all through this wine, as I feel he has an amazing ability to pull the entire fruit spectrum (in terms of light red all the way to dark black) for Cabernet in the right sites. Right after opening, it filled the air with a lifted fruit profile...high toned dark chocolate dipped blackberries, blueberries, and baking spices like nutmeg, alongside floral violet notes. It’s rich on the palate without being flabby or too fruit forward. The darker fruits translate over...beautiful black cherries, but mostly ripe blueberries and freshly squeezed blackberries, followed by dark cocoa, espresso, toasted oak. Really nice acidity and fine grained tannins on the finish. Still youthful, but this can be enjoyed now with a couple hour decant. — 2 days ago
Drank over two days and much better on day two. Still young and fairly powerful, nice envelopping texture and nice fruit to go with those strong but approchable tannins, nicely balanced and delicious. 89-91
Bu sur 2 jours. Encore jeune et fringant, de la poigne et de la mache, une belle texture malgré des tannins enckre bien présents, mais du beau fruit aussi, bien meilleur jour 2 aussi. 89 jour 1, 91 jour 2.
