Weemala Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Drank 5/21/21

From first sniff, I could tell this Sauvignon Blanc was different from most I had tried before. There was an undertone of creaminess and an intense ripeness to the wine’s fruit tones. Pear, passionfruit, green apple and hints of mango were accompanied by an undertone of fresh cream.

On the palate, the wine was sensationally balanced. It had a hefty body enough to stand up to Filipino egg rolls (lumpia) and refreshing fruit and acidity that washed over my whole mouth.

Everyone in my family remarked that they enjoyed the wine. So far, this holds the gold standard for New World Sauvignon Blanc for me.

Venus Block Orange Chardonnay 2014

See previous notes. They still apply. All the hallmarks of modern Australian Chardonnay. Nutty leesy aromas with rock melon notes - from the cool climate district near the city of Orange. A light to medium weight palate. Proving that the Orange/Tumbaramba district is a great area for cool climate Chardonnay with Penfolds sourcing fruit from here for their top Chardonnays like Yattarna. Also Phillip Shaw (former winemaker for Rosemount when they were famous) has set up a winery here under his own name. — 3 years ago

Cool Climate Central Ranges Viognier 2013

This is a tiny family winery near cold climate Orange in NSW which was a welcome discovery when I was judging at the 2017 Toowoomba Wine Show. They make award winning Shiraz Viognier and straight Viognier in minute quantities. It would be safe to say this would be the first bottle of this wine ever consumed in Copenhagen as I brought it over here. This is a full bodied flavoursome and voluptuous White with attractive Apricot flavours and some bitterness to finish off. Very Good. — 6 years ago

No. 19 Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Does no betray that it is a SB at first blush. The grass is more a tertiary aroma beneath maybe a green apple nose.
On the palate the acid predominates but is not obtrusive. The wine is probably more of a Loire valley signature.
Rosslyn and Alix did not appreciate this wine at all. In fact they disliked it so much they did not drink it.

Allotment No. 8 Handpicked Orange Shiraz 2014

Pronounced minerality and fresh cherry fruit finishing with grainy savoury tannins. From the relatively new viticultural area of Orange, this is an excellent example of cool climate Shiraz. Reminds me of the Chalkers Crossing (reviewed elsewhere on Delectable) which won 8 Trophies and grown in nearby Hilltops near Young. We gave this a Gold Medal at the The Toowoomba Wine Show in August 2017 and deservedly so I believe. — 6 years ago
