A night for Zinfandel!
This single-vineyard beauty was produced by Arnot-Roberts with fruit hailing from the Kirschenmann Vineyard located in the Mokelumne River AVA, part of the broader Lodi AVA, of California’s Central Valley. It’s predominantly Zinfandel made with a dose of Mondeuse Noir, Cinsault, and Carignane, which are sprinkled throughout the vineyard block.
Lodi is famous for its old-vine Zinfandel that can develop into the most enchanting, gnarled shapes that speak to the passage of time. Tegan Passalacqua (proprietor of the Kirschenmann Vineyard) dry farms his ungrafted old vine Zinfandel, originally planted in 1915!
This wine is an example of a light, fragrant style of Zinfandel. It has concentration and intensity, but is not heavy, oaky, or jammy in the slightest. It clocks in at 13.5% ABV, in the medium realm. The color is medium ruby and the aromas and flavors are ripe, but fresh, with vibrant notes of red cherry, raspberry, strawberry, kirsch, red plum, black cherry, lilac, delicate black licorice and fennel.
It’s perfumed and elegant. And positively delicious, not to mention extremely food-friendly and versatile. A wonderful “wine for the holidays”! — 4 months ago
Impatiently picking and eating strawberries that are still white on the top. Grittiness like panning for gold on a hot day in gold country. — 6 years ago
