Iron Springs

Iron Tree

Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Blend 2013

Label could use some work. Pretty basic as the kids might say. Nice rusty maroon in the glass. Aroma has a bit of rust on it too. It’s also showing a bit of mineral oil. Strange old world nose to this. Flavors are very dry and woodsy. Tastes of ‘old book’, both the pages and the leather bindings. This might be a bit cooked. Little linger of that oxidized flavor. But also holds a bit of roasted red pepper and plenty of black currant jam too. It’s lacking in depth, but it has some lovely Merlot character. Aged pretty well too. — 5 days ago

Seven Springs Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Slightly cloudy appearance, dull not bright. Discovered tiny pieces of solid matter in the glass so seems unfined and unfiltered. Definitely better uncorked than Coravinned, needs to breath a little. With Coravin there’s some reductive notes and vegetable notes. Medium(-) aromas that remind me of stems and fermentation (tank sample) definitely som stems in the ferment. Warm alcohol on the nose and on the palate. Still, good balance between the intensity and the richness of ripe red fruit and the acidity. A little too much alcohol sensation for me. #eolaamityhills #oregon #oregonwine #pinotnoir — a month ago

Bedrock Wine Co.

Alder Springs Mendocino County Syrah 2018

This the Calico California Syrah, which is a blend from all over CA. Bedrock dumps it in barrel, stirs it up, and as usual a very nice wine ends up in the bottle! I must be the first to drink! — 9 days ago

Nickel & Nickel

Branding Iron Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Just had to try another bottle. From an Oakville vineyard, dark Ruby, a rich and complex Cab loaded with berry, currant, spice box and cedar aromas. On the palate blackberry and sweet cherry flavors with notes of pepper, smoke and sweet herbs. Refined tannins, but still tight, long ending with a fine sweet smoky cedar character. Very nice has room to age for a decade or so, but great now! — a month ago

Found this in our home library. Didn’t mean to hang onto it this long, but it turned out to be a really nice wine. Joy and her people sure do a great job every time. — 8 days ago

La Source Seven Springs Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

This Chardonnay is very good, but not worth its very high price. The flavors are very complex, but not well-coordinated. The palette begins with Apple and pineapple, tasting more European than American, but then finishes with a buttery flavor. The achievement of so many flavors was impressive, but the flavors did not match up for me. The balance of flavors improved over time with oxygen, so perhaps I should have let it breathe an hour before consuming. Good, but I wouldn’t buy it again. — 6 days ago

Kerloo Cellars

Lonesome Springs Ranch Rosé 2018

Yakima Valley, 50/50 Grenache Mourvèdre. 240 cases made by small urban winery in Seattle. Light salmon pink with golden tinge, rather pretty. Excellent clarity. Slight sulfite, floral notes in nose, maybe citrus peel and cherry. Cherry and stone fruit (peach-nectarine) flavors, slight white pepper on finish. Dry, good acid as well as length of fruit flavors. Well made, minimal tannins here, at least on initial pour. A winner — 23 days ago
