Furstentum Alsace Grand Cru Riesling 2001

Vintage 2001| Proof of a long life for riesling. The colour was really brown, mahony brown. Smell with a very little petrol, more honey. That honey is also present in the taste. Good balanced. Appreciating such a ripe wine is a matter of acquired taste. Paired with a mixed fish stew. — a month ago

@Peter van den Besselaar, while I generally love Riesling, I do prefer the German versions for aging. I’ve had (and still have) an odd bottle(s) of 1988 (1989?) Zind-Humbrecht Riesling “Brand”, but I prefer the other varietal bottling from Alsace (with the concession that the Alsatian bottles with the most potential longevity are their Grand Cru Rieslings)!!

@Doug Powers Agreed. I guess the ratio in my cellar is 6:1 German vs French 😉
