Brut Blanc de Noir Champagne Blend

Confrérie Des Chevaliers du Tastevin Sous-Commanderie d'Albany; 20 September 2020 at New World Bistro, Albany, NY

Physically Distanced 🚧 but Socially Close 🤗 dinner, our first in +8mo. Following the reasonable NY State dining regulations, seated and masked. While a new experience, it was well worth it to see our core group again.

Strawberry blueberry jam nose, strawberry cooler, welches Concord grape juice, dry finish. Lots of sugary sweetness. Delicious wine. A little too drinkable. — 5 days ago

Limestone + Schist Rorick Heritage Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

Candied yellow fruits on the nose with a slatey minerality. Super dry on the palate with underripe tropical fruit and vanilla cream. Lots of tension and energy. These guys just make killer wine. — 2 days ago

Hundsrück Trocken Spätburgunder ,,J" 2015

Relativ pale with a brown tinge. Cedar box on the nose. This is quite earthy and smokey. I am not sure if the wine will jive with a lot of people. Orange zest. Backing spices which become more prominent over night. I am not fully convinced a good wine but 2015 was a ripe vintage and it is a touch prune plumy . I would not mistake this for a Burg it reminds me more of a good Pinot from the Santa Rita Hills with a little bit less fruit and a high acidity. Compared to an 2008 JW I had a while back not convincing. — 25 days ago

J. Navarre

Pineau des Charentes Rosé

Not a Rose’ Retailer notes, Blend of 35-50 year old cognac One of the best Cognacs ever to hit K&L, the Navarre Veille Reserve is the pride and joy of importer and K&L friend Nicolas Palazzi, the man behind the K&L Faultline Cognac and Guillon Painturaud expressions. Nicolas has told me time and time again that of all the brandies in his stellar lineup of grower-producer spirits, the Navarre fills him with the most pride. That's probably because it tastes so damn good. Jacky Navarre is one of the last purists among the artisan cognac distillers. The fourth generation of cognac makers in his family, located in Gondeville since 1811, he takes care of his small Grande Champagne estate with a very basic rule, "Let nature do most of the work." With the exception of an ultra-rare, impossible-to-get aged release, Navarre only makes one Cognac expression - the Vieille Reserve. It's made with 100% Ugni Blanc, and Jacky distills the brandy on the lees. The brandy sees no sugar, caramel or boise, and no water is added at the end. The natural 45% cask strength is achieved through evaporation! There are few other Cognac producers who take such care with their product and the attention to detail shows through in the flavor. The flavors of the grape are not overpowered by caramel or nougat, but are allowed to shine alongside supple vanilla. The finish is incredibly rich and wonderful, loaded with barrel spice and toasted nuts, but delicate and almost haunting in its litheness. Amazing in every way.

Colorado Petite Sirah 2018

Deep purple in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose with blackberries, black cherries, cooked strawberries, oak, light vanilla, licorice, spices, earth, light vegetables, turmeric, black pepper and a touch of honeysuckle.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with cherries, sweet strawberries, raspberries, lemon peal, black currants, oak, earth, honeysuckle, spices, herbs and black pepper.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy pomegranates.

This is a very unique Petite Sirah from Colorado. Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Rich, dense, opulent and tangy. Concentrated, but fresh.

This Single Vineyard Petite Sirah does not resemble a California Petite Sirah.

Still young and needs five years in the bottle to mature properly, but already very yummy. I really enjoyed the nose, and kept smelling on it for a while.

Good right out of the bottle. Good by itself and better with food. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

Grapes are fermented on their own yeast. Aged in American oak barrels. Unfiltered and unfined.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$48.
