Jules Desjourneys

Chapelle Des Bois Fleurie Gamay 2010

One of the “Bourguignon” producers in the line-up, this examples from Jules Desjourneys was a clear outlier in the group. This was a 2010 and came across younger than anything else we enjoyed over the course of the evening. Popped and poured; no formal notes. The 2010 Fleurie “Chapelle des Bois” is locked up in oak but the fruit is there; dark brambles forever with some licorice as well. Unfortunately, it’s going to take a very long time for the oak to give up its grip on this one. Luckily, I think the quality of the fruit will last long enough to make it more enjoyable…eventually. Best after 2025 through 2040; which seems somewhat ridiculous to write. — 4 months ago

Le Bois Jacou Touraine Gamay

A solid budget “Beauj”. This actually tastes like terroir and you can tell the winemaker is trying to not get too involved in the cellar unlike last nights moulin a vent. A lightness and tartness that is quite fun raspberry notes of fruit and a lot of acidity lead to a good drinking wine. Perhaps cherry notes in the middle? The finish isn’t huge but it does linger after swallowing. Actually the nose is quite pretty. Lilac notes? A flower. Highly recommended. The light tartness on the finish might a little much for some people. Maybe air will mellow it. Will buy again.
Edit: after 20 or 30 min of air the tart end integrates and the wine smoothed even more out. This probably deserves a higher rating than 9. Highly recommended

Les Plantes aux Bois Côte de Nuits-Villages Pinot Noir 2016

Continue to be blown away by the QPR on this producer—at 7 years this is so composed and balanced, nice structure, seductive dark fruit and earth elements, easily drinks at the premier cru level — 4 months ago

Cuvée La Reine des Bois Lirac Red Rhone Blend 2019

Sickly sweet cherry plum syrup on the nose with notes of vanilla and cloves. Luscious mouthfeel. Liquid smoke and chambord, grilled plums, and raspberry jam on the palate. Mild tannins. Long luxurious finish. The alcohol level is just too high. — 4 months ago

Croix de Bois Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2016

The ‘14 was superb, perfectly integrated and extracted. Old leather and cassis. Long finish. The ‘16, however, was another level of rich and round, primary with fig and blackcurrant. Black olive. Years away from peaking, will be a star, likely 9.6++ — 4 months ago
