Château Saint Estèphe

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

David T

Allen Brothers Ribcap wine.

2004 not the best Bordeaux vintage but, certainly not bad. What was disappointing was how not ready this was to drink. Normally, a lesser than grand vintage 14 years in bottle Cos would have blossomed better. Good but, not what I was hoping for with my Ribcap. Still showing a fair amount of primary characteristics & a touch astringent.

It will be 5-8 years before I open another.

Truly one of the more grand Chateaus in Bordeaux.

Again, good but not wonderful. It had some things going on but nothing that was so memorable that I recall at a month later. — 9 days ago

A bit lacking in the nose. A good well balanced left bank Bordeaux. Solid effort is a great year. — 10 days ago

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Terrific St Estephe - very masculine wine with a brooding intensity that builds each hour after decanting. The bouquet takes a bit of time to develop but has beautiful dark fruits, tobacco and leather. Plush tannins sit heavy on the palate with more dark fruits and leather with a long finish. A very big wine that seems like it’s just at the start of its drinking window. — 10 days ago

Château Phélan Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Another generous gift for my Cabernet tasting matching the theme of 2009. I have not tasted this producer before mainly trying Cos and Montrose from Saint Estephe previously. It was more full bodied and silky than expected reflecting the vintage. Black and red fruits. A little lost for words after the Lafite to be honest. Most enjoyable however. — 20 days ago

Elegant BDX blend. Black cherry, leather, and bay leaf aromas. Round with tertiary flavors coming alive. Red fruit, leather, dried herbs with a long smooth finish. Cheers! — a month ago

Starting to soften up a bit but was still in a bit of a tannic stage without the fruits really unfurling themselves. — 12 days ago

This producer is a classically long cellar. At some point in your age timeline, you have to stop buying a producer. I’ve finally reached it with CS. Still holding 95’s.

Le Saint-Estèphe de Montrose Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

I see slightly lower scores here perhaps because it’s already drinking so sumptuously. I had to slap myself twice to ensure I wasn’t imagining it’s majesty. — 6 days ago

Loved it! Strong out front, but smooth finish. Lots of layers..needs to breathe a good couple hours, but worth the wait. — 8 days ago
