Ca' Marcanda Promis Toscana Merlot Syrah 2017

Monday evening and tonight I have opened the 2017 Gaja Ca' Marcanda Promis Toscana. This is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Syrah and 10% Sangiovese from Castagneto Carducci in Tuscany, Italy.

On the nose there is raspberry, strawberry, plum, there is a savory gamey component, baking spices, licorice, pepper, clay and earth.

On the palate I am getting cherry, raspberry, red currant, licorice, herbs, lavander, graphite and earth.

This wine is medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + firm sandy tannins that has a long fresh red and black fruit finish. The week ahead looks like it is going to be a fantastic week and I am looking forward to it being full of wonderful fall beginnings. Have a great week, please be safe and stay healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Domaine Sigalas

La Sémillante Bordeaux Semillon 2015

2015 vintage. Sauternes will have to focus more and more on dry wines if they want to survive, but I strongly believe in the potential for dry white wines in this region. This is 100% Sémillon made by Sauternes Cru Classé Sigalas Rabaud. Deep yellow. Intense perfume of pineapple, flowers, honey and a hint of brioche. Powerful taste with exotic dried fruit, rather low-acid but well-balanced. Some residual sugar is obvious in the finish, but it works well for this exuberant style. Abv. 14,5%. — 4 months ago

Château Rabaud-Promis

Premier Grand Cru Classe Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2011

Located opposite the Chateau d'Yquem, the Rabaud-Promis castle, on the hill Rabaud since the late eighteenth century. Sweet stone fruit aromas with hints of honey. On the palate full flavors of orange and peach with notes of citrus notes adding a bit of spice. Balanced acidity, rich finish ending with botrytis-like character. Very nice! — 2 years ago

Ca' Marcanda Magari Bolgheri Cabernet Franc Blend 2016

11/17/20 Tuesday night and to follow up on last night's Gaja Ca'Marcanda Promis I have opened the 2016 Ca' Marcanda Bolgheri Magari. A Super Tuscan blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot.

On the nose there is black cherry, plum, black raspberry, strawberry, mint, bell pepper, mocha and crushed gravel.

On the palate there is black cherry, red plum, black currant, green bell pepper, cedar, herbs and an earthyness.

This wine is full bodied with a smooth velvety mouthfeel, medium + acidity and medium + smooth round tannins that leads to a long dark fruit finish. A beautiful expression of a complex super tuscan. Love the mouthfeel and the all around expression of this wine. Continue having a great week and do stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

Ca'Marcanda Magari Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

Still very closed and difficult to rate, difference with the Promis doesn’t justify the difference in price. Hopefully time will bring the nuances needed... — 5 months ago

I love this wine. The 2016 was excellent some months ago (young but already complex and approachable).

Lieutenant de Sigalas

Sauternes White Bordeaux Blend 2010

Extremely funny part about this one is that most people have never had or do not like sweet wines. It seems to me though they don’t know how to drink them very well. At this party we had a mixture of hard and soft cheeses, bread, and sausage. Showing people that a small sip of this wine combined with some of those flavors produced something much more interesting and tolerable feels like a big coup on my part. My guests went from not wanting to wanting another bottle of this wine. Honeyed apricots and dried peach flavors. Kind of dusty in a raw honey kind of way. Excellent second label of Chateau Sigalas-Rabaud. — 2 years ago
