Château Jacques Blanc

Marc Hébrart

Brut 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs

A pale straw color with a generous amount of tiny bubbles. A fine mousse and bead. This is an incredibly alive champagne and it starts immediately. Meyer lemons and tart green apples, along with smoke and mint on the nose. That wonderful citrus streak continues throughout.

100% Chardonnay primarily from Mareuil-sur-Ay and Chouilly. Family owned grower and one of my favorite producers with such consistent quality. Richer and fuller than many others, it’s round and vibrant. Lovely depth and acidity with a backbone of herbs and spices.

Chalky minerality and crystallized honey shine here. Beautiful toasted bread and almonds on display, along with more green apples and lemons. Apricots, plums, and peaches sing a lovely song. Chamomile and more honey on the long, exceedingly pleasant finish. A highly attractive pour.

Cade

Estate Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2018

David T
9.2

We drove up Howell Mountain to get to Cade two Sundays ago. What we witnessed was a horror show of fire damage. It’s hard to see nature destroyed in such a fashion. What was worse were all the brick chimneys only standing where there were once a home or a winery building.

Glass fire note. The fire investigation revealed the fire was started by a Cakebread electric fence short. An additional saddening note is Dolores Cakebread, the co-founder of Cakebread Cellars died shortly after the Glass Fire started. She was 90. No way to know if the stress of the fire factored into her passing.

We started with two Sauvignon Blancs. I enjoyed this one more than than the 2019. It simply has had a year longer in bottle to round out.

The 2018 proved to be a classic Napa Sauvignon Blanc. The 2018 was thick, nicely round and good viscosity. Tropical in style. Lots of melons, pineapple, white stone fruits, lighter citruses, beautiful, soft mid minerality with very good acidity and well balanced & polished finish.

Photos of; Cade Estate vines, outside patio tasting area, infinity wall and their Estate Cabernet fruit unharvested. Sadly, about 80-85% of the 2020 Napa Valley Cabernet fruit will never see bottling.

Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Color of light egg white, a bit bubbly. Nose of copious honey and flowering note, mixed with equal intense ripe fruits like mango, pear, nectar, and addresses with a bit mineral, spice, and medicinal note. Taste of ample acidity with sweetness from ripe fruits, some more zesty and medicinal note to balance, also very juicy and condense. Aftertaste shows some more grapefruit flavors. Full flavor Sauvignon blanc. Pretty good. — 11 days ago

Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Savennières Chenin Blanc 2009

Mid yellow in colour with greenish tinges. An oxidative Sherry like note. Mouldy ripe apple and apricot with a honeyed nuance. On the palate a full bodied white with a syrupy note. Ripe fruit developing a hefty 15.5% ABV. The delicious ripeness of the fruit hiding the high alcohol to an extent. This vineyard has a fascinating history. The Coulee de Serrant vineyard is a controlled appellation of only 7 hectares. The vineyard was planted in 1130 by Cistercian monks and today consists of vines aged from 35 to 80 years old. This Serrant wine was celebrated by Louis XI and Louis XIV as one of the best French white wines. — 3 days ago

This is still very young and not ready for my palate. It simply needs another year to resolve and integrate. The 19 in its current form rides the fence of Napa & New Zealand styles of Sauvignon Blanc. The fruits are ripe and tropical but has the grassiness of NZ without the cat pee. Decent. If you own it, give it another year or two.

Girasole Vineyards

Mendocino Pinot Blanc 2019

This is a very nice Pinot Blanc from Mendocino County in California. Showing citrus, lemons, green and yellow apples, light grapefruits, spices and light earth.

Dry on the palate with medium plus acidity. Crisp and refreshing.

Nicely balanced with a long, tangy finish.

Very easy to drink and good by itself or with food. I had it with Brie cheese by the lake.

Organic and vegan.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

Richard Leroy

Les Noëls de Montbenault Anjou Chenin Blanc 2015

The unicorn Richard Leroy that just can’t seem to survive any length of time on American wine lists and to no surprise 86d on this occasion. It’s quite reductive begging for a long decant. It’s deep and precise and with zippy acidity showing fiji apple, lanolin and a touch of orange zest. Finishes with great length and tension. The fuss is justified. Great stuff.  — 2 days ago

Grande Reserve Vieilles Vignes Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2019

This is a very tasty Chenin Blanc from France. Showing honey, yellow apples, apricots, tropical fruits and spices.

Light to medium in body with medium plus acidity.

Semi sweet on the palate and very tasty.

Nicely balanced with a slight buttery feel. Nice and elegant.

I've had a few different vintages before, and it keeps on being consistent and yummy.

Domaine Charpentier

Les aigrettes Reuilly Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Domaine Charpentier Reuilly Les aigrettes 2018

Chalk and lemon and a petrol thing on the nose. It could be a Sancerre. The palate is well designed with a massive acid drive, a good grip, a nice width with lemon, that chalky texture too. A spherical mid palate powers up a very long finish with chalky and lemony notes. Simple, classic but very good
