N°2 de Verdignan 2002
The cork broke while I pulled it. Huh
After putting it in a decanter and letting it rest a bit, here is how it shows itself:
Mushroom, leather, tobacco, conserved cherries in spirit, a little bit of black currant too. The nose is showing its age. The palate is surprisingly rather smooth and round where I was expecting edges and tannins. That conserved cherry note plays its part all along, there is a strong acid drive too, a bit of matter on the sides with a nice mouthfeel (I was expecting a thinner wine considering the vintage...). In the rear, tannins are very much fully integrated now and give way to a rather long finish with that same cherry note and a touch of bitterness. I am pleasantly surprised as I was expecting a thin and faded away wine. — 5 years ago
2024/7/20-21. Aromatically this starts out pretty brown - lots of toasted spice and earth. With air it does show flashes of the deep, smoky cherry one might expect, and it’s still very enjoyable, but I can’t help wonder if this bottle (which I bought on sale) might have been a little worse for wear. I usually love Graci’s wines, and something felt a bit off… — 2 years ago
N: Now that’s the best jolly rancher I’ve huffed.Candied strawberry goodness. A little bit of mysterious wooddiness *around the edges.
P: Bright, terrific acidity, popin’ red fruits, just slightly herbal. A great match for the saltiness of baked ham. Glou-Glou indeed.

N: chocolate dipped cherries, red licorice, a few red flower petals.
P: a structured merlot w grippy tannins, surrounded by plush fruits, predominantly red with a little black, with a few blueberries mixed in. Tobacco, dark chocolate, pencil, and spice box.
had w salmon, mushrooms, and sweet potatoes in soy-honey glaze. Flavors generally worked but wine was little bit tannic for the salmon.

Sunday Lunch with Roast Lamb. Deep Ruby in colour - very dense. A very Margaret River Cabernet - nose with herbs and a little mint. Barb thought a bit of capsicum (bell pepper) on the nose. On the medium bodied balanced palate the tannins are quite soft yet persistent. Leeuwin Estate better known for its outstanding Art Series Chardonnay has been working hard with the red varieties and it shows. — 6 months ago
