Popped and poured. The 2014 “Castelletto” is garnet with an transparent core and very slight staining of the tears. On the nose, cherry lozenge, roses, dried green herbs, tomato leaf. On the palate, the wine is dry, high tannin, medium++ acid. On the palate, cherry candy, cherry raisin, dried earth and iron minerals. A little thin. Long finish. The nose is more interesting than the palate at this stage. I gotta wonder if time will be kind to the 2014 vintage? Anyway, fun to check in on. — 10 days ago
Rich & intense yet so precise & fine.
Orchard apples, fresh apricots, a salty, slatey whiff, the typical white pepper rather underplayed. Fresh, seemingly light.
On the palate this punches wow. Intense, rich, layered yet so fine and almost weightless. Layers of ripe fruit, with juicy, electric acidity and as if a light tannic frame. Gewürztraminer like in the mouthfeel & complexity, yet with such precision. Wow. There’s depth, there’s tension, there’s great energy & flow.
I’m not a great fan of Grüner Veltliner, and yet this is absolutely stunning. The finish just goes on forever.
I wonder how this will age.

Outstanding! Cocoa, cooked black cherry, cooked black plum, liquorice, raspberry sauce, leather, deli meat, and much more. Integrated oak with notes of vanilla and toast. Ripe tannins and long, long finish. Delicious. I wonder how much further it could go!? — a month ago
Right in the Chianti Classico sweet spot. Resolved tannin and acid support rich black and red fruit. Pruny, but still bright. Bone dry Amarena cherries, but no rs. Oak in balance. Expensive cigarettes. I wonder about this in 5, 10, 15 yrs… — 17 days ago

Four Seasons Collection Late Harvest Red Moscato 1997, Moldova
#AgedWineTuesday
This is a very tasty sweet wine from Moldova. Actually, my first one from this region.
Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.
Sweet on the palate with nice acidity that balances it out.
Showing red and black fruits with sweet cherries, over ripen citrus fruits, Indian spices, caramel, mocha, nuts, dried figs, cooked raisins and walnuts.
This 25 year old, still has good acidity, which is nice to see.
Good right out of the bottle, and so much better after 3 hours of airtime.
It does not feel fortified, but I wonder how they got to that high alcohol...
A good dessert wine with great complexity.
I found it in a Russian grocery store for $4. Couldn't help myself.
I paired it with an Italian Fruit Tart cake.
15% alcohol by volume.
