Broken Stones Red Rhone Blend 2012

minimal air needed, not a day 2 wine so drink up after opening.
Age has really improved this one, had it on release and it was a mistake to open that soon.

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2020

Began in 1944, Mario Incisa acquired Cab Sauv & Franc vine cuttings, planted them on San Guido estate, called Castiglioncello, Sassicaia, "the place of many stones". A blend of 85% Cab Sauv, 15% Cab Franc. Lovely ripe fruit & spice aromas. Bold berry fruit flavors with spice, oak, leather & cacao, a powerhouse. Soft tannins allows current enjoyment. Long silky smooth fresh finish ending with fruit, oak and spice. Great now, will age, but drink now, outstanding. Little pricey at $300. Tasting Sample. — 6 months ago

Broken Stones Paso Robles Syrah Blend 2020

2020 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 3.5 hours. Ripe nose full of black fruits. Hint of clove. Heavy body. Some tannic presence but still on the "smoother" side of the ledger. Remarkable concentration throughout. 7.27.23. — 9 months ago

Happy New Year!🎈🎆🎊

From mag. Who said the2007 vintage was bad? They didn’t taste it 16 years from inception or 14 years in bottle. Excellent as our first prime rib wine.

2nd night tasting with leftovers. One glass left. It’s dark inky, round, mushy velvety tannins, dark currants, blackberries, blackberries, black plum, dark cherries, plum pudding, strawberry highlighter, dry stones, limestone powder, dark turned earth, soft, fresh & dry tobacco notes, soft lead pencil shavings, wet volcanic ash, moist clay, charcoal, sandalwood, understated dark spice, dark chocolate, just a touch of baking spices, dark & red withering flowers, violets, excellent round acidity and a well knitted structure, balanced fruit & earth, good tension with a long elegant finish that falls on a dry mineral finish lasting 90 seconds.

I always leave an inch to inch and half in the bottle to pour a bit to all at the end. I believe the expression for that is, “The Truth! From the expression, the truth is inside. It doesn’t lie and makes for more extremely concentrated sip(s). You might say it is a lot like monosodium glutamate…everything you tasted in the wine previously, taste more.

Domaine Leflaive

Les Pucelles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 1996

Decanted for a few hours and taken to Kochi in Hells Kitchen. Light straw color. Vibrant and viscous in the glass. Old Leflaive petrol and reductive nose. Notes of citrus fruit, lemon crème, wet stones, petrol, tan spice, hazelnut and white flowers. Good balance of rich fruit with still strong acidity. Long finish. Bottles this fresh easily have a decade or more of pleasure in front of them. At peak but still has plenty to give. — a year ago

The nose is immediate captivating with blueberry, cedar, pinecone, grilled herbs, dark chocolate, black pepper, light lavender, and hint of leather. It’s complex but does not overwhelm. The medium to full body is elegantly sculptured and self assured. Great balance. Sheer joy to drink this.

87/13 CS/CF aged 22 months in 100% new French oak barrel. Aaron Pott is the wine maker.

Sticks and Stones Paso Robles Grenache Blend 2012

Been holding onto this for a while and well worth it! Rich and velvety, deep jam my aroma, long lasting tart strawberry finish, wonderful with cheese plate and with dark chocolate. — 8 months ago

The Stones Speak Funk Estate Vineyard Syrah 2016

The Stones Speak. Did they ever! Full bodied, dense concentrates of decaying fall leaves after a fresh rain shower drenched in minerals, fine polished fully integrated tannins almost leaving a sweet edge. All secondary and tertiary notes. No distinct fruit to be recognized. It was like drinking extracts squeezed from the river rock on which they grow the Syrah. A flavor explosion as soon as it hits your mouth. — 2 years ago

We tried pairing this wine with a cheese that would compliment it - Manchego, Jarlsberg, and Gouda. The Manchego’s nutty flavor brought a sweetness outcompeting the wine so it was out of balance. However was lovely to eat after a sip of wine, pairing nicely with the aftertaste. The Jarlsberg’s subtle flavors disappeared with the wine-didn’t distract or bring out the flavors; but the Gouda stood up and made an excellent pairing.
