Caraccioli Cellars

Santa Lucia Highlands Brut Rosé Blend 2017

Grower bubbles from the Santa Lucia Highlands. Still can’t compete with top tier grower champagne (we don’t get that phenolic maturity at low brix etc) BUT excellent none the less. The rosé from Caraccioli especially stands out. The 1-2% SLH Pinot brings an element of coastal Cali terroir to this wine (the tiniest hint of that strawberry, herbal quality) which blends so perfectly with the lemon juice and marzipan/vanilla/lanolin leesy quality. Fine persistent mousse. One of the best examples of domestic sparkling I’ve had. — 4 months ago

What a treat to taste this magnificent 15’ the 2nd time after 2 years.

Expressive but not showy, powerful yet restrained. This bottle shows more of the perfectly ripened Napa fruits. A beauty that will age gracefully.

Les Grands Terroirs Chablis Chardonnay 2015

Last had 2.5 years ago, and the additional time has been good to this bottling. Really a wonderful wine that was better on day 2. In a perfect drinking place - has lost none of its verve, delicious acid, or linear profile, while adding some white fruit complexity. Nice. — 3 years ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

2003 vintage. Also recently tasted 9.26.23 (9.5) and 10.14.23 (9.4). First bottle was sexy, voluptuous and the usual Cos with all the baby fat, even after two decades. 2nd bottle much leaner (9.4) and w/o the baby fat...more minerals afoot. Decanted and immediately tasted, also after 30 mins and after 2 hrs. Massive sed thrown. This bottle in between worlds. Some baby fat, some minerals-still damned delicious and doesn't suck. 10.22.23. — 6 months ago

La Bastide Saint-Dominique

Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhône Blend 2020

Fruits, fermented flavor. Even in 2 years vintage, enough concentration. Young Grenache. A bit tannic even in 2nd day. 2020 @600, Kping -, 221021-221129 — a year ago

Château de la Gardine

Cuvée des Generations Gaston Philippe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2005

Nice wine but probably better a few years ago. Was worried it would be too over extracted or jammy or oaky or hot but it was none of those - perhaps due to age and the 2 hour decant. Overall slightly one dimensional but still good fruit. Finish lacked. — 2 years ago

Mount Langi Ghiran

Cliff Edge Shiraz 2017

See previous notes on 2 tasting occasions. Coincidentally all at Paros on the Beach Apartments - all 3 tastings. One of my favourite 2nd wines in Australia. Often associated with white pepper, this exhibits more plum and spice. A very good wine and great QPR. — 3 years ago

Thanks for the awesome note Bob. I've only got a little experience of the 2009 vintage. It's never agreed with me. Always far too acidic. I've tried everything to soften it but to no avail. 😢

Cuttings California Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Tasty but closed up on 1st glass (used aerator)…so, had to pour a 2nd glass ;). Vacuseal & had the 2nd half of the btl day 2 - was terrific. — 9 months ago

La Spinetta

Vigneto Bordini Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2014

Fantastic effort from a somewhat difficult vintage… bridges the style gap for most in our tasting crew (modern vs traditional). Needs 2+ hours of air or 4+ years in bottle, but everyone loved this one. 2nd bottle tasted from this vintage, both terrific. — a year ago

Eric Bordelet

Poiré Granit 2018

Something different - a pear cider from Normandy produced from pear trees estimated to be about 300 years old. Poire Granit had 25 to 50 grams of sugar per litre yet it doesn’t taste particularly sweet. The nose and palate are nothing more complex than pear juice with a slight effervescent bubble. Very refreshing and only 6% ABV. I bought 2 other Cuvées from Eric Bordelet - one had zero ABV. Had a 2nd bottle 21 weeks later on 3rd January 2023 with consistent notes. Refreshing, tasty and uncomplicated. — 2 years ago

I do like a good cider. Making them is even better - stupid easy, and usually better than what you can buy.
